“Sterling” is an experienced, well-rounded gelding looking for someone who wants a big, gorgeous horse with a fun personality that they can enjoy both on the flat and over fences.

Sterling has a strong dressage foundation, including an 8th place finish out of 82 horses in Dressage at the 2023 Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover.  He has shown through First Level dressage and is schooling much of the Second Level work at home.

While well-educated on the flat, Sterling particularly enjoys having a job over fences.  He is currently confidently jumping and showing in the 0.70m-0.75m jumpers, has near-auto changes over fences, and could also make a lovely hunter with more mileage and experience in that ring.  He has experience as a lesson horse in an advanced hunter/jumper program and has been a favorite lesson horse for my 13 year-old niece. He has cross country and combined test experience, hacks alone or with small groups, has been ridden on trails, and crosses water.

Sterling loads and travels well and is generally handles new environments well.  He clips, cross ties, stands for grooming, farrier and bathing.  He loves attention, and a good curry may be one of his favorite things!

Sterling is best suited to a confident adult amateur in a program.  He is not a beginner horse, but he does not require a professional rider.  He has good ground manners, but he is a large horse and will do best with someone comfortable handling his size and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Sterling is a mild cribber in his stall that is easily managed with a collar. He currently wears front glue-on shoes and steel hinds.

Sterling is lifetime registered with both USEF and USDF and limited-lifetime registered with USEA.  As a graduate of New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program, he also comes with the benefit of a lifetime safety net and can be returned to the program at any time should the need arise.

Sterling has done a little bit of everything and would be a really fun horse for someone who enjoys variety.  Whether its a day of jumping, some dressage work, a trail ride, or heading off property, he has a lot of experience to bring to his next person.
